Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel made astonishingly rapid and successful progress through the lower ranks of motorsport. In 2010 he became the youngest ever Formula One world champion and he has held on to the title ever since.
Vettel spent eight years in karts, winning the German Junior Karting Championship, Monaco Kart Cup and European Junior Karting Championship in 2001. The following year he was sixth in the Senior ICA Kart Championship and then moved into car racing.
He finished second in the 2003 Formula BMW Germany championship and was top rookie. The following year, aged 17, he emphatically won the title, taking 18 wins from 20 starts and 387 points from a maximum of 400.
The following season he was fifth in the Formula Three Euroseries. The championship was dominated byLewis Hamilton and ASM – Vettel’s ASL team didn’t win a single race, though he was the top rookie.
Thanks to his BMW connections Vettel made his debut as an F1 tester for the Williams team. Still aged only 18, he had to ask his school teacher for time off to do the test.
The following year Vettel joined Paul di Resta at ASM but finished second to his team mate in the championship. A debut appearance in the World Series by Renault proved much more fruitful – Vettel won both races at Misano.
He also appeared at the next round at Spa but badly injured his hand in a 170mph crash. His right index finger was almost severed and had to be stitched back together.

Nonetheless Vettel joined BMW’s F1 team as a test driver and became their Friday driver after Robert Kubica was promoted to the race team in Jacques Villeneuve’s place.
Vettel was fastest of all in Friday practice at his first weekend in Turkey, where not only did he also become the youngest driver to participate in a Grand Prix weekend (aged 19 years and 53 days), but he also collected a fine for speeding in the pit lane on the way to the track for the first time.

2007

He began the 2007 season racing in World Series by Renault. But when Kubica was injured during the Canadian Grand Prix Vettel stood in for him at Indianapolis and finished eighth, becoming the youngest driver to score a championship point.
Kubica returned at the following round but Vettel got another chance in F1 later that year.

Toro Rosso

Sebastian Vettel, Toro Rosso STR2B, Jerez, 2008
Toro Rosso dropped Scott Speed following the European Grand Prix and Vettel took his place for the rest of the season.
While running an excellent third in the wet Japanese Grand Prix Vettel collided with the driver in front of him during a safety car period – worst of all it was fellow Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who had a potential victory in his sights. Vettel redeemed himself at the next race in China, again in wet conditions, where he finished fourth.

2008

Even better followed in 2008, when Vettel dominated the wet Italian Grand Prix, taking pole position and leading almost all the way to win. He said afterwards:
In the race itself I was surprised – you’ve just taken the chequered flag in first the race is over, and you’ve won your first Grand Prix. To start with I didn’t understand and started thinking, “What do you say at a time like this?”
In the end my engineer, who’s a very quiet guy, came on the radio and told me that I’d just won the Italian Grand Prix. I turned on the radio and started talking very slowly and collectedly, thanking people.
It’s dumb – you work your whole life for a moment like this and when it finally happens, you don’t know where you are. But by the end of the slow-dowm lap it clicked and then I turned the radio back on again and screamed my thanks, this time in Italian.
Sebastian Vettel
It was the culmination of rapid progress by the team throughout the season. Vettel had often struggled to get beyond the first lap early in the year, but the arrival of the new STR3 chassis at Monte-Carlo followed later by an engine upgrade put the team in among the front runners.

Red Bull

2009

By then Vettel had already been confirmed as David Coulthard’s replacement at Red Bull for 2009. But his second full season of F1 didn’t get off to a great start.
While running second at Melbourne he overstepped the mark in his attempt to defend his position from Kubica and the pair collided. The steward handed Vettel a grid penalty for the next round at Malaysia, where he also failed to score.
This was a setback at the beginning of a year which he ended as runner-up in the drivers’ championship. He won four times, including a dominant wet-weather victory at Shanghai, which echoed his maiden win at Monza.
Later in the season the RB5 was often the car to beat and Vettel added wins at Silverstone, Suzuka and Abu Dhabi. But more lost opportunities hampered his championship ambitions: a crash at Monaco, a collision with Kimi Raikkonen at the Hungaroring, and a mistake on the first lap while leading at Istanbul. A blown engine at Valencia (his second that weekend) hindered his chances further.

2010

Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, Abu Dhabi, 2010
Red Bull carried their form into 2010 and Vettel should have won the first two races of the year. But he was hit with car problems while leading in Bahrain and Australia.
He did deliver a win in Malaysia but team mate Webber seized the initiative with a series of wins at mid-season. Vettel was frustrated not just by car problems, but also some costly mistakes. He collided with Webber at Istanbul and crashed into Jenson Button at Spa-Francorchamps.
But he was rarely off the front row of the grid and started ten of the 19 races from pole position. Late in the season he hit a rich vein of form, winning in Japan and Brazil and leading until his engine blew in Korea.
Even so he was the third-ranked title contender heading into the season finale at Abu Dhabi. But as rivals Webber and Alonso hit trouble Vettel claimed his fifth win of the year to snatch the championship in a dramatic turn-around.

2011

Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, Suzuka, 2011
Shortly before the 2011 season began Vettel extended his contract with Red Bull until the end of 2014.
The RB7 was the class of the field once again and this time Vettel used it to exert crushing superiority over his rivals. From 19 races he set pole position 15 times – a new record – and won 11 races. He wrapped up the championship with four races to spare.
Vettel comprehensively out-classed team mate Webber, who scored a single win in the final race in Brazil as Vettel suffered a rare gearbox failure. This and a first-lap retirement in Abu Dhabi following a puncture were just about the only things that went wrong for Vettel as he became the first driver since Fernando Alonso in 2006 to win back-to-back world championship titles.

2012

Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, Yas Marina, 2012
Vettel successfully defended his title again in 2012 after a season-long battle with Alonso.
Changes in the technical rules left Red Bull fighting a rearguard action in the opening races. Second for Vettel in the season-opener in Melbourne and victory in round four got the year off to a promising start.
But while Red Bull tried to make progress with their RB8 Vettel slipped behind in the title battle and Alonso seized the initiative. A potential win in Valencia was lost due to alternator failure. At other tracks Webber had clearly got to grips with the new car more quickly.
Another alternator failure in Italy cost him points in a race he had already compromised by picking up a penalty while dicing with Alonso. He made a similar mistake with Button in Germany.
But Vettel’s season began to turn around after the summer break. A strong drive in Belgium produced a useful second pace finish.
He collected victory in Singapore after Hamilton retired in front of him. That began a sequence of races in which he was never headed, winning four times in a row.
Having taken the championship lead from Alonso, Vettel’s run of success faltered. He was sent to the back of the grid for a technical infringement in Abu Dhabi but impressively recovered to finish on the podium. Hamilton pinched victory off him in America, and he went into the final round of the championship with a 13-point margin over Alonso.
This proved to be just enough after a tense final round at Interlagos in which Vettel was knocked into a spin on lap one and spent the rest of the race with a damaged car. He salvaged sixth place while Alonso could only manage second, which was sufficient for him to keep hold of the championship.

2013

Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, Buddh International Circuit, 2013
Vettel extended his run of championships in 2013 with his fourth victory in a row.
The opening rounds of the championship promised a closely-fought campaign, Vettel sharing wins with Alonso and Raikkonen. Mercedes also started the season strongly, their drivers keeping Vettel from pole position more often than not in the first half of the championships.
But regular podium finishes kept Vettel ahead in the points. They included a controversial win in Malaysia, where he defied his team’s order for him to stay behind Webber and passed his team mate in the final stint.
After the summer break, which also coincided with a mid-season change in tyre construction which helped Red Bull, Vettel reeled off sixth consecutive race wins which decided the outcome of the title with three races to go.

Sepp Blatter prefers Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo; Real Madrid star doesn't take it well | SIDELINE

It had been quite some time since Sepp Blatter said anything inflammatory and controversial, at least by the FIFA president's own dastardly standards.
It only seemed right, then, when Blatter chose to impersonate and patronize world superstar Cristiano Ronaldo last week during a private speaking event at the prestigious Oxford Union.
The question that steered the 77-year-old Swiss down a slippery slope was a very popular, yet simple one: Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?
Blatter not only spurned Ronaldo in stating his preference for Messi, but then took a dig at Ronaldo, citing that "one has more expenses for the hairdresser than the other."
Rather than simply assessing the two players for their on-field merits and abilities, which he initially tries to do, Blatter opens up a passageway for us to take a look into his mind.
First, his assessment of what makes Messi a great footballer:
"They are both exceptional players but they are totally different and football is about the difference of stars, because Lionel Messi is a good boy who every mother and father would like to have at home.

"He's a good man, he's very fast, he's not exuberant, he's playing well, he's dancing, he's a kind man, he's really good, he's a good boy. And that's what makes him so popular and naturally he will always get a lot of votes because he is this nice man, and he plays well and scores goals."
Note to self: Being a nice person will help me score goals at a record-breaking pace. Thanks for the tip, Sepp.
Only to outdo himself and the hairdresser comment, the president of football's world governing body then proceeded to perform a physical impersonation of Ronaldo when he stood from his chair and claimed, "the other one is like a commander on the field of play," while walking around and motioning his arms in a robot-like manner.
Blatter, probably only just realizing after the fact that — 1) his actions would be viewed as disrespectful, and 2) he looked like a fool — quickly backtracked in delivering Ronaldo a backhanded compliment, saying, "This is the other side of football and that's good to have such commanders on the field also. Because you don't have the same attitude, and that gives life to football and one has more expenses for the hairdresser than the other, but that doesn't matter."

Google secret barge floating facilities? Mysterious buildings on barges spotted

A mysterious barge floating in San Francisco Bay is said to be the secret new Google Glass facility, which has cutting edge technology using the sea water for part of its cooling system. The same type of barge is seen in Portland, Maine this week. Both barges carry buildings made out of four stories of shipping containers on a 250-foot long barge floating on the east and west coasts.
There are black nets of secrecy draped over the operation that’s rumored as a floating “giant Apple store,” in the making bobbing in San Francisco Bay, according to Yahoo News on Oct. 26. The other barge in Portland was spotted by folks in New England over the last week, reported yesterday by CNET.
This “secret project,” which is what the locals are calling this massive floating block rising high above the bay water is expected to eventually anchor next to San Francisco’s Fort Mason and open for the public when it’s complete. Google has declined any comment on this barge and they have not offered any indication that they have anything to do with this “secret project” in the bay.
CNET reports that back in 2009, Google obtained a patent for this type of operation, so has it finally materialized? The ocean water will provide a natural cooling center for such a massive operation. The water also provides a “sustainable power source” for this project, as seen in the diagram from the patient office above.
A very similar floating barge, four stories high like the one in San Francisco Bay, is also seen in Portland, Maine. Is this another floating data center for Google? This is what CNET asks today. The two are definitely connected, claims the website. Both buildings are built out of shipping containers and they both are very similar even down to the entrance into the two buildings, both having a slopped covered walkway.
The patient that Google submitted describes the system as:
“A system [that] includes a floating platform-mounted computer data center comprising a plurality of computing units, a sea-based electrical generator in electrical connection with the plurality of computing units, and one or more sea-water cooling units for providing cooling to the...computing units."
While everything points to this mystery barge being Google’s new and very secretive Google project, some foresee a problem with this. Google hasn’t applied for the permits need to park a floating Google complex in San Francisco Bay, which is something they will need.
Unless Goggle has a secretive way of getting the OK to park the barge, this doesn’t seem possible, as Bay Conservation and Development Commission director Larry Goldzband said in an interview:
“The law is crystal clear in this case: The Bay is not to be used for something that can be built on land.”
As far as the barge in Portland, it is sitting on a barge registered to the same company that the San Francisco barge is registered to. According to CNET: "The one in San Francisco Bay was built on top of a barge with the registration "BAL 0010," while the one in Portland harbor is on a barge with the registration "BAL 0011."
The next question CNET brings up now that two barges have been spotted, "Is there more out there?"

Mysterious floating barge in San Francisco Bay could be secret new Google Glass facility

A 250-foot long barge with four stories of shipping containers floating in the waters of the San Francisco Bay may actually be the home of Google’s next big marketing push.

KPIX 5 reports that several experts close to local government authorities that oversee such operations say that the barge is likely home to a major marketing effort, a “kind of giant Apple Store,” in support of Google Glass.

The barge itself is reportedly referred to as “the secret project” by locals, with the shipping containers largely concealed under a bed of black netting.
The theory goes that upon completion, Google will pull the barge up to San Francisco’s Fort Mason, where the floating data center would then become open to the public. For it’s part, Google has declined to comment on the speculation.
CNET agrees with the speculation, pointing out that Google obtained a patent for such an operation in 2009 . But why a floating data-center? They say the water provided a natural cooling center for a massive operation like this and that the water itself is also a sustainable power source.
The patent describes such a facility as a, “system [that] includes a floating platform-mounted computer data center comprising a plurality of computing units, a sea-based electrical generator in electrical connection with the plurality of computing units, and one or more sea-water cooling units for providing cooling to the...computing units."
There’s just one major problem: many of these same experts say Google hasn’t sought the proper permits to open any such operation.
“Google has spent millions on this,” one anonymous source close to the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) told the station. “But they can’t park this barge on the waterfront without a permit, and they don’t have one.”
A second source confirmed that Google has inquired about “hypothetical operations” that would be water-based but has not specified how or for what purpose any such enterprise would be employed.
Another challenging facing any such enterprise would be in justifying why Google would need the new operation to be water-based.
“The law is crystal clear in this case: The Bay is not to be used for something that can be built on land,” BCDC director Larry Goldzband told the station.

Angelina Jolie – Scarless Breast Augmentation Surgery

In a May 14, 2013 article entitled “Angelina Jolie Reveals She Had Preventive Double Mastectomy After Discovering Cancer Gene,” Fox News reported the movie star had opted to undergo the procedure upon learning that she carried a gene that doctors estimated gave her an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer (go to: goo.gl/5JHBP). Ms. Jolie’s personal physician followed up on May 16, 2013 with a blog post entitled “A Patient’s Journey: Angelina Jolie” that details Ms. Jolie’s diagnosis, condition, and treatment (go to: goo.gl/LD1RK)
“I’d advise every one of my female patients to read the blog post,” says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. “It does an excellent job of explaining the role of BRCA genes on breast and ovarian cancer and the initial diagnosis and treatment plan phases. As an aesthetic physician, for the sake of my patients I appreciate the detailed accounting of the initial surgery all the way through breast reconstruction with implants.”
According to the Fox News report, Ms. Jolie completed three months of surgical procedures from February through April of this year. The process began on February 2, 2013 with a procedure known as a “nipple delay” to confirm the nipples are safe to maintain, an important aesthetic and psychological consideration for many mastectomy patients. It was a nine week process from that first procedure to Ms. Jolie's third and final operation to reconstruct her breasts withimplants.
“I appreciate the amount of effort and resources that is dedicated now to achieving natural-looking final results,” says Dr. Ourian. “I’m very grateful, honored really, when I’m called upon to perform laser scar revision on post-mastectomy patients.”
Dr. Ourian has been a pioneer in laser technology and non-invasive aesthetic procedures including Restylane, Juvéderm, Radiesse and Sculptra. These treatments are used for the correction or reversal of a variety of conditions such as acne, acne scars, skin discoloration, wrinkles, stretch marks, varicose veins, cellulite, and others. More information about breast augmentation can be found on Epione’s website.

Angelina Jolie's Breast Surgeon Speaks Out

The plastic surgeon who performed Angelina Jolie's recent breast reconstruction is speaking out, calling for a team approach to breast-cancer treatment, with plastic surgeons involved from the time a woman is diagnosed with cancer and is considering her treatment options.
Dr. Jay Orringer, who practices at The Renaissance Medical Center for Aesthetic Surgery Inc. in Beverly Hills, Calif., will speak about the team approach, or "the breast team," today (Oct. 16) at a doctors' meeting in Hollywood, Fla.
"A woman has the right to speak with not just the breast surgeon, but also a plastic surgeon, to understand the various treatment options and their implications," Orringer said.
The breast team would include the general surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and gynecologist, Orringer said. Also, psychotherapists, support groups and physical therapists may be important members of the support team.
A plastic surgeon can help women understand how different treatment options affect the quality of breast reconstruction, Orringer said. [6 Foods That May Affect Breast Cancer Risk]
Generally, there are two approaches to treating breast cancer. In breast-conserving surgery, the tumor is removed, and radiation therapy is applied to the breast. The second method involves removing the breast altogether, which is called a mastectomy.
If a woman chooses to conserve the breast and undergo radiation therapy, there will be permanent changes to the breast tissue and the chest wall, Orringer said. If she subsequently requires a mastectomy because of a new cancer, the quality of breast reconstruction would be diminished.
"What I would like to avoid in the future is a woman coming in for breast reconstruction after previous radiation therapy, and saying, 'I had no idea about the implications of the radiation I had,'" Orringer said.
Orringer was part of a team of physicians who cared for Jolie when she had a prophylactic mastectomy to prevent breast cancer. Jolie carries a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, which significantly increased her risk of developing breast cancer, she wrote in an Op-Ed in the New York Times in May.
About 12 percent of women in the general population will develop breast cancer sometime during their lives. But the risk for women like Jolie, who carry a mutation in either the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, is much higher.
Women at high risk for breast cancer may choose to undergo "active surveillance" and get tested regularly. Another option is to remove both breasts, a procedure called a prophylactic double mastectomy, which can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer by approximately 90 percent.
Newer surgical techniques, including skin and nipple preservation and scars that resemble cosmetic approaches, are improving aesthetic outcomes.
"The idea of a scar that goes across the chest is increasingly becoming a scar of the past," Orringer said.
Moreover, a plastic surgeon could discuss the timing and techniques of reconstruction. There are generally two categories of breast reconstruction: using an implant,or borrowing fat tissue from another part of the body. Each has its pros and cons, Orringer said.
Depending on the patient's general health and the nature of the tumor, the reconstruction surgery could be done either at the time of the mastectomy or be delayed if other treatments are anticipated.
An immediate reconstruction may also diminish the sense of loss for the patient, as she awakens knowing the reconstruction has already begun, Orringer said.
"A woman is the captain of her own health care team, and the doctors involved should be co-captains with her, working with her to help achieve the best outcomes," Orringer said.

Angelina Jolie Inspires International Adoptions

When cameras follow the actress Angelina Jolie, it’s not just down the red carpet. It’s often a very long way from Hollywood.
Two important roles have taken Jolie around the world — her roles as U.N. goodwill ambassador, and as mother of her son, Maddox, and daughter, Zahara.
“They’re the greatest little people I’ve ever met, and they give me so much joy,” Jolie said.
Jolie managed to get Zahara out at 6 months old. She was one of the lucky ones.
When Jolie arrived back in the U.S., she and little Zahara graced the covers of numerous magazines, and the public took note.
“I remember being at the store and seeing Angelina on the cover of, I think it was People magazine,” said Ann-Charles Watt, “and I said, ‘Oh my gosh! We can do this.’ “
Watt and her husband, Jason Hillard, residents of Athens, Ohio, wanted to adopt a child. When they saw Jolie on that magazine cover with her adopted daughter, their decision to raise a child from Ethiopia was clear.
“In the grand scheme of things, she changed our lives,” Watt said. “It’s kind of hilarious to think of, but yeah, Angelina Jolie probably brought us an African child.”
Americans have been adopting from around the globe for many years. The highest adoption numbers in 2004 came from China, Russia, and Guatemala.
Jolie hopes more people follow in her footsteps and discover the rewards of saving a child who might not otherwise live to see a first birthday.
“It makes me very happy,” Jolie said. “And also [it makes me happy] for the parents, ’cause they’re going to be lucky … with those babies ’cause they’re amazing.”

Mini Biography
A native of Canada, Pamela Anderson was born on Vancouver Island, and later moved to the city of Vancouver. It was while she attended a British Columbia Lions football game that Anderson was "discovered" in a most unusual way. Dressed in a Labatt's Beer T-shirt, her image was transmitted on the stadium's wide screen. The fans cheered the beautiful girl, and she was brought down to the 50-yard line and introduced to the appreciative crowd. As a result, she was signed to a commercial contract with Labatt's and became the company's "Blue Zone" girl. The campaign was so popular that other commercials and advertising assignments for Anderson soon followed. Due to the recognition from these commercials, she was soon approached to do her first cover for Playboy Magazine. Pamela has since gone on to grace the cover again an astounding five times, more than any other woman in the magazine's history. With the success and recognition she garnered from Playboy, Anderson soon moved to Los Angeles where she spent two seasons in the top-ten ABC Television hit series "Home Improvement" (1991) as Lisa, the Tool Time Girl. It was on "Home Improvement" that she captured the attention and affection of viewing audiences nationwide. At the same time, Anderson was cast as C.J. Parker on the internationally successful series "Baywatch" (1989), but because of the impossible scheduling requirements of working on two hit shows, she eventually left "Home Improvement" and remained full-time on "Baywatch". She now stars on one of the most phenomenally popular television programs of all time, which is seen in 140 countries worldwide. Recently, Anderson made the transition into the feature film arena, starring in Dark Horse Entertainment's action comedy Barb Wire (1996). In addition, Anderson was featured in the CBS movie-of-the-week, _Come Die with Me: A Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer Mystery (1994) (TV)_, a hip and updated Mike Hammer mystery, co-starring Rob Estes. Pamela was married to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, and they had two children, Brandon and Dylan. However, the couple divorced in early 1998. Both have had a rocky relationship in the past and continued to date on and off, but then headed to court over custody of their two sons. Meanwhile, she starred in and produced her hit TV show "V.I.P." (1998), which ran for four seasons until 2002. During the spring of 2001 she dated singer Kid Rock, but they broke up in the fall of 2003. Eventually she reunited with ex-husband Tommy Lee after she found out she was diagnosed with hepatitis C, which she contracted when they shared the same needle for their tattoo. By the fall of 2003 the new network Spike TV launched her latest action series, a cartoon developed by Stan Leecalled "Stripperella" (2003). She is an active participant in various organizations, including PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and dedicates her time by taking part in religious practices with children from around the world.IMDb Mini Biography By: A. Personal Quotes
Making love in the morning got me through morning sickness. I found I could be happy and throw up at the same time.
What I know in life runs the gamut of the "feminist experience." The true meaning of feminism is this: to use your strong womanly image to gain strong results in society.
I don't really think about anything too much. I live in the present. I move on. I don't think about what happened yesterday. If I think too much, it kind of freaks me out ...
"I don't recommend surgery at all. Women's bodies are beautiful as they are, and I've had a love/hate relationship with my breasts my whole life." quoted by the New York Post
I am the ultimate California girl, which is funny, being that I'm Canadian.
My doctor says, "You have hepatitis C." And I go, "Okay, how do I get rid of it?" And he's like, "You can't. This is what you're going to die from." I was in the middle of shooting VIP; I didn't know what to do. This wash came over my body. And then the doctor says, "Do you know how you got it?" I said no. And he said, "Your husband never told you he had it?" It kind of threw me for a while. Obviously, it's a hard thing to tell someone, but I wish he could have had the nerve to tell me. Obviously, his ego was more important than my life.
It's terrible because people see stars like JLo and Beyoncé wearing fur and they don't think about the cruelty that goes into it.
Natural beauty takes at least two hours in front of a mirror.
